WhatsApp shutting down permanently on these iPhones and Android devices
Ammon News - WhatsApp will stop functioning on a number of older smartphones as part of its routine software update cycle beginning Sunday, June 1, 2025. The update, initially expected on May 5, was delayed to allow users more time to prepare. The Meta-owned messaging platform has raised its minimum operating system requirements, resulting in the end of support for devices that can no longer meet these standards.
To continue using WhatsApp, iPhones must now be running iOS 15.1 or later, while Android devices must operate on Android 5.1 or newer. Devices that fall short of these criteria will lose access to the app's messaging and calling services.
Full List of Affected iPhones and Android Phones
Several older Apple and Android devices will be impacted. The following iPhone models are confirmed to be incompatible with the new version of WhatsApp:
iPhone 5s
iPhone 6
iPhone 6 Plus
Additional models such as the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE (1st generation) have also been mentioned in some reports. However, these devices are capable of running iOS 15.8.4, which means they remain compatible for the time being.
On the Android side, the devices losing support include:
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Sony Xperia Z1
LG G2
Huawei Ascend P6
Moto G (1st Gen)
Motorola Razr HD
Moto E (2014)
HTC One X
Samsung Galaxy S3
Any device running Android 5.0 or earlier is no longer supported due to the new minimum requirement of Android 5.1.

Microsoft is blocking Google Chrome through its family safety feature
Ammon News - Earlier this month, Microsoft's Family Safety feature, primarily used by parents and schools as a set of parental controls and filters, started randomly blocking Google's Chrome browser from opening on Windows. The first reports surfaced on June 3rd, with some Chrome users noticing the browser kept closing or wouldn't open. Microsoft has introduced a bug into Family Safety that specifically targets the Chrome browser and prevents it from functioning on Windows. 'Our team has investigated these reports and determined the cause of this behavior,' says Chrome support manager Ellen T. 'For some users, Chrome is unable to run when Microsoft Family Safety is enabled.' Other browsers like Firefox or Opera appear to be unaffected, and some users have even found that renaming to works around this issue. Schools or parents who have enabled Family Safety as part of a Microsoft 365 subscription can also disable the 'filter inappropriate websites' setting in Family Safety to get Chrome up and running again, but this does leave children able to access any website. It's unclear when Microsoft will fix the issue, which has been ongoing for more than two weeks. We reached out to Microsoft to comment on this problem earlier this week, but at the time of publication, the company hasn't responded. 'We've not heard anything from Microsoft about a fix being rolled out,' wrote a Chromium engineer in a bug tracking thread on June 10th. 'They have provided guidance to users who contact them about how to get Chrome working again, but I wouldn't think that would have a large effect.' Microsoft has a habit of doing weird things on Windows to steer people away from using Chrome. While this Family Safety issue is likely an innocent bug, Microsoft has used prompts, fake AI answers, malware-like popups, and even a poll injected on Google's Chrome download page to try and sway people to switch to its Edge browser. Earlier this year, Microsoft even used Bing to trick people into thinking they were on Google. The Verge

Trump says he will probably extend TikTok deadline again
Ammon News - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he would likely extend a deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest the U.S. assets of short video app TikTok. The president said in May he would extend the June 19 deadline after the app helped him with young voters in the 2024 election. His comments to reporters on Air Force One on Tuesday reiterated that sentiment. "Probably, yeah," Trump said when asked about extending the deadline. "Probably have to get China approval but I think we'll get it. I think President Xi will ultimately approve it." Reuters

Meta appoints Arun Srinivas as India head
Ammon News - Meta Platforms said on Monday that Arun Srinivas has been appointed as the managing director and head for Meta in India, effective July 1. Srinivas currently heads, opens new tab the tech giant's India ads business, according to his LinkedIn profile. His appointment comes at a time when Meta and Indian authorities have locked horns regarding allegations of the tech firm's anti-competitive practices in the country. In November, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) had fined the company over antitrust violations and restricted popular messaging platform WhatsApp - which Meta owns - from sharing user data with other Meta-owned applications for advertising purposes for a period of five years. Meta had disagreed with the CCI's order and had warned of a hit to its business. It won a major relief earlier this year when an Indian tribunal temporarily suspended the five-year data sharing ban.
