‘Last Epoch' Season 2 Blasts Off With Massive Player Retention

Forbes18-04-2025

Last Epoch
Last Epoch
This is not meant to be a negative, but between ARPG heavy hitters like Path of Exile 2 and Diablo 4, Last Epoch, a new IP that first arrived as a demo back in its Kickstarter days in 2018, had a steep hill to climb. That resulted in a number of tests and betas before it finally released in full in February of 2024.
Now, season 2 of Last Epoch has arrived quite a while later, but it's player retention is so far rather stunning. Last Epoch launched in February 2024 with a stellar 264,000 concurrent playercount on Steam (it's PC only, and has remained that way). Now? Season 2, over a year later, is here and has already gotten 150,000 concurrent players, but is likely to have pushed higher by the time you read this over the course of the weekend. It's certainly possible that it goes north of 200,000, which again, for this game, for this long of a gap, is really excellent, and it's been easy to see a lot of games experience significant drop-offs even with new content releases.

There's no free-to-play caveat here to boost numbers either. The game costs $35 with up to $65 ultimate edition versions. It's at 77% Mostly Positive on Steam, with 88% Very Positive in the last month. Again, excellent.
Last Epoch actually moved this season 2 release date specifically because it was going to be just two days after Path of Exile 2's huge update, and it didn't want to get squashed. Interestingly, Path of Exile 2's April 4 update peaked at 238,000 concurrents, not all that far away from what Last Epoch may hit here. And this is Path of Exile we're talking about, a massive ARPG franchise. However, this update rankled the PoE playerbase with severe nerfs that have had to be slowly rolled back in time. But not before the game got a 39% Most Negative score on Steam for the past month.
In an industry often filled with bad news these days, it's nice to see a game like Last Epoch do well after so much hard work, and break through to an audience that clearly has enjoyed the new take on the ARPG genre. I played a bunch back at launch, and I expect to dive in soon, provided I can pry myself away from the mysteries of Blue Prince, which is no small feat.

Say Goodbye to YouTube Ads Forever: Here's the VPN Trick You Need

Without YouTube Premium, you're doomed to watch ads every few minutes, sometimes more often. If you're exhausted by head-spinning ads, consider purchasing a YouTube Premium subscription. Sensible, right? Well, not for everyone. YouTube Premium's recent price increases made it unaffordable for many. People online have found a simpler way to block YouTube ads. You wouldn't believe it, but these two VPNs make YouTube ads vanish in seconds! NordVPN and Surfshark are renowned for their reliability. They provide exceptional privacy, streaming prowess, and compatibility with all devices. While both VPNs include ad blockers, they've become ineffective in blocking YouTube ads. Well, that's what most people thought. Namely, when you use NordVPN or Surfshark and connect to a server in Albania, YouTube ads suddenly disappear. Having tested the trick, we realised it's true. You may be wondering how this works. Avoid YouTube Ads With NordVPN As many people there have reported, YouTube doesn't display ads in Albania. Simultaneously, NordVPN and Surfshark work like all other VPNs. They allow you to connect to a remote server and use its IP address. Given these VPNs' strong presence in Albania, connecting to an associated server is a breeze. With the Albanian IP address, users can overcome YouTube ads and enjoy an experience similar to what YouTube Premium provides. Things like adding videos to the queue and playing videos with the screen off aren't there. At least, you won't notice any ads, allowing for uninterrupted entertainment on all devices. While YouTube is a big part of our lives, splurging on a VPN gives you much more. Watching YouTube without ads is just a speck in the universe of possibilities. One of them is very popular, and it's bypassing geo-blocks. NordVPN and Surfshark are particularly effective at streaming and unblocking many websites. They offer over 100 locations globally, with modern 10 Gbps servers and fast protocols to enable industry-leading speeds. Many people latch onto torrenting as a perk. Both VPNs are equipped with optimised servers for P2P. In addition, they provide MultiHop (Double VPN) capabilities for double the encryption and more security and privacy. All-around VPNs like these are fantastic for gaming, and you can even enable them on public WiFi networks for added protection. If you're an avid traveller, more privacy and ad-free YouTube enjoyment sounds exciting. No bandwidth limits mean endless possibilities, but more importantly, you don't need wealth to get them. NordVPN and Surfshark cost pennies these days, so you don't have to ditch your summer vacation for their subscriptions. Try Surfshark risk-free today

Haley Kalil's Kids Choice Awards Slime Dress Goes Viral

Haley Kalil might've just worn the coolest dress EVER to Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards. If you don't know her, she's a model and influencer with over 30 million combined followers across Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. She's known for her funny skits and vlogs and collaborating with famous people like Ed Sheeran, Courteney Cox, and the Jonas Brothers. For the awards, which happened last night at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Haley wore an outfit that had Nick kids everywhere screaming with nostalgia. It featured a beige off-shoulder dress with a short train and a long bright green headpiece with shimmering beads and gemstones of varying sizes and colors. It cascaded down Haley's neck and dress, creating the illusion of slime pouring down her body. Haley paired it with an assortment of diamond rings and a layered bracelet to match, along with a set of orange and green slime-themed nails. Here's a closer look: "It's cute!" one fan gushed on Reddit. "Very appropriate for the event." Another agreed, "Kids events should be fun, I like it! A third fan said, "No idea who she is but 10/10 on concept and execution, and she still looks gorge 👏👏👏." While another commented, "She is Looking Camp Right in the Eye 👁️ and I like it." Some especially loved the pairing of the white dress and green headpiece, with one person noting that it "emulate[s] the contrast between a celebrities outfit and the nickelodeon slime." "I think this is cool and creative," someone else added, as different redditor wrote, "Okay now this is fashion I love it." So cool, Haley! Tell me what you think of the look in the comments.

Look Outside just got a big update bringing a bunch of new creepy experiences

To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. I didn't really need an excuse to begin another playthrough of Look Outside , but the developer just dropped an update that provides plenty of reasons to dip back into the survival horror RPG if you were looking for any. Update 1.5 brings new crafting recipes, new interactions with people in the apartment building — some familiar, some not — and big changes to the flooded basement area, along with a slew of other tweaks and bug fixes. You can take a look through the update notes to see everything that's been added, or just jump right in and let yourself be surprised. Look Outside is a survival horror game with turn-based combat that was released on Steam in March. The game sees the player character Sam trapped in an apartment building for two weeks to ride out some strange, apocalyptic event happening outside. The weirdness, of course, makes its way inside too, and you'll find yourself up against all sorts of body horror monstrosities and trying to figure out who you can trust. Between the art, the music and the story, it's an all-around masterpiece that I haven't been able to stop yapping about since playing it for the first time back in April. It's really cool to see the developer is continuing to add to it because this is one of those games that's just made to be played over and over. If you haven't picked it up yet, there's no time like the present.
