RML P39 hypercar prototype makes public debut
UK-based engineering company RML Group wowed spectators at Supercar Fest The Runway 2025 with the first public appearance of its limited-run P39 40th Special Edition (40SE) prototype.
The event, based around top speed and repeated full-throttle acceleration runs, is staged annually at Sywell aerodrome, near Northampton, UK. It provided the perfect opportunity for RML to flex the vehicle's muscles.
Designed around the Porsche 992.1 Turbo S, the P39 40SE combines elements of Le Mans Hypercar technology with practical road capabilities. Key modifications include an increased track width at the front and rear, along with an extended wheelbase. The standard body has been replaced with a carbon fibre shell, featuring active aerodynamics such as a driver-controlled drag reduction system and a remotely adjustable chassis to boost downforce. With this set-up, the car generates 662kg of downforce at 240km/h.
Under the engine lid, the twin-turbocharged six-cylinder motor has been tuned to produce 671kW and 1,000Nm of torque. RML achieved the increase in power by fitting a new ECU, upgraded turbos and intercoolers, new manifolds and catalytic converters, plus an Inconel sports exhaust. Four drive modes are offered: Normal, Sport, Sport+ and Wet. According to the company's simulations, the P39 40SE is capable of lapping the gnarly Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:45, quicker than a base 992.1 Turbo S by 32 seconds.

Toyota's Japanese insurer files R6.5b lawsuit against KZN government
TOYOTA South Africa Motors' (TSAM) Japan-based insurer, Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd, is suing the KZN Department of Transport (DoT), Transnet and the eThekwini Municipality for R6.5b for the unprecedented damages faced by Toyota's Prospecton branch following the devastating April 2022 floods. Also read: Floods hit Prospecton industries hard The insurer filed a summons in the Durban High Court against the three defendants, with the plaintiff's court papers stating the defendants had failed in their duties of maintaining the key infrastructure meant to safeguard the Prospecton Industrial Area from flooding. It is stated within court papers that Transnet owned the Umlaas Canal and was therefore responsible for its maintenance, management, and responsible handling of the flood risk associated with it. The canal, which is lined with concrete, channels and diverts the Umlazi river around the Prospecton Industrial Area. Together with the diversion berm, which falls on the Department of Transport to maintain and manage, it forms a vital part of the flood control and prevention for the area. In addition, it states responsibility for the stormwater management system falls on the eThekwini Municipality. 'As a result of these failures, Toyota was compelled to engage various contractors to repair the damage caused by the flooding and hired specialist engineers to repair the structural damage to the premises, as well as damage to electrical installations, plumbing, air-conditioning and assembly systems,' it said. The damages, which amounted to over R6.5b, included almost R4.5b for the costs incurred during the repair and reinstatement of the premises and property, and over R2b for the losses incurred during business interruption. Transnet's media desk issued a brief response, saying it is aware of the litigation initiated by Toyota insurers and has filed a notice to defend. It further stated that given the early stages of the case, it would be premature to offer further substantiation. The April 2022 floods Following the trail of carnage left by the April 2022 floods, heavy rainfall and landslides in KZN, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national state of disaster. Toyota's Prospecton plant was ravaged by the floods, and the business was left with around 4300 flood-damaged vehicles, nearly 90% of the cars on site. The automotive giant reported that over 100 000 new equipment parts needed replacing. Astonishingly, after three months of intense repairs and support from the company's Japanese head office, production resumed in August 2022. Following this, TSAM invested over R200m to prevent disasters of similar magnitude going forward, and over R100m was dedicated to establishing monitoring and maintenance systems to proactively guard against water ingress. These included an early-warning weather monitoring system, construction of perimeter canals, and significant upgrades to the site's stormwater network. An additional R128m was spent on internal interventions to protect the facility even if external systems failed. KZN logistics company owner, drivers arrested in raid on undocumented foreigners
KwaZulu-Natal premier Thami Ntuli has vowed to continue a clampdown on businesses that flout labour laws by employing undocumented foreigners. He was speaking after a raid at Westmead Mining, a Durban-based logistics company where law enforcement officials arrested several workers without documentation. 'We will not tolerate the employment of undocumented nationals or anyone employed without due processes. It must be legal, ' said Ntuli. The visit follows an outcry from local drivers who complain undocumented workers accept lower wages, he said. An informer put the number of truck drivers working at the company at 85, said Ntuli. The owner was arrested More than 135 people were arrested in a crackdown by police for a wide range of crimes in the past two days, he said.

All-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo GT goes fastest once again
This Taycan has 580kW of power on tap which increases to 760kW during launch. The ridiculously fast Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has just gone and added the Yas Marina Circuit to the growing list of global racetracks where it is officially the fastest production battery electric vehicle. The record lap time of two minutes 7.247 seconds was set using the current 5.2km F1 GP World Championship circuit in Abu Dhabi. Strict regulations A new official lap record format from the Emirates Motorsport Organisation (EMSO) dictates that cars undergo strict scrutineering prior to track activity. This is done to ensure the cars are being run standard production car trim and specification. On track activity is then limited to a 60-minute practice session, followed by a 45-minute qualifying session. It's during this qualifying session that the lap record time must be set. What this means for the man in the street is that there are no rear seats. There is also more carbon fibre and this in turn offers a better power-to-weight ratio. The Weissach package saves 75kg while a fixed rear wing provides extra downforce. Porsche Taycan Turbo GT race-ready The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT comes standard with lightweight ceramic brakes based on the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake. The car is also equipped with the Dynamics Package that includes the Porsche Active Ride suspension with GT-specific tuning. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is said to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.2 seconds. And reach a top speed of 305km/h. If only The Citizen Motoring could get our hands on one, this Porsche just might be able to topple Mercedes-AMG's GT 63 S E Performance Coupe from the top of our sprint table too.
