Should the Boston Celtics take Marquette combo guard Kam Jones in the 2025 NBA draft?

Should the Boston Celtics take Marquette combo guard Kam Jones in the 2025 NBA draft? The Celtics have a pair of picks in the 2025 draft, one in the first round at No. 28 overall, and another early in the second round at No. 32 overall. That combination of picks could net them the sort of talent they will need if they do follow through on the rumored direction of dealing away vet guard Jrue Holiday to save money on a potentially historic tax bill.
And Cam Jones would be far from the worst gamble for Boston to take with one of those picks to try to shore up their backcourt rotation in the event of a Holiday trade. A 6-foot-4 guard who stepped into a floor general role last season with Marquette and surprised many with his success in it, the 23-year-old prospect is a more known commodity who can likely help the Celtics in his rookie season -- or soon after.
The hosts of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk it over. Check it out below!

Torrey Craig gives an update on Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum's Achilles rehab

Star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has been keeping a low profile since he went down with a torn Achilles tendon against the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals. And given the anguish that injury created for the St. Louis native, we can hardly blame him. But Tatum has been, by all accounts, hard at work rehabbing that ankle so he can get back on the court as soon as possible and better than ever. Veteran teammate Torrey Craig has been in Auerbach Center this summer as well, and has seen the Duke alum grinding. "He loves the game so much and basketball means so much to him," said Craig in a recent interview with CLNS Media's Noa Dalzell and Bobby Manning. "He puts so much hard work into it, and dedication and sacrifice, and all of the above. For something like this to happen at that moment, in the playoffs, it's just gut-blowing." Kevin Durant Wanted To Join The Celtics Or Knicks At February Trade Deadline

Kevin Durant Wanted To Join The Celtics Or Knicks At February Trade Deadline originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Kevin Durant's looming exit from Phoenix has taken another twist. According to NBA insider Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports, Durant privately expressed interest in being traded to either the Boston Celtics or New York Knicks during the February 2025 trade deadline. While the Suns held on to him through the season, the revelations now add context to his seemingly inevitable departure this summer. Advertisement 'There were rumblings at the trade deadline KD wanted to land with the Celtics or Knicks. New York's interest reportedly isn't mutual anymore. Boston's cap sheet and trajectory make that scenario highly unlikely.' At the time, both teams were thriving. The Celtics had championship aspirations with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading a stacked roster, while the Knicks were rising fast under Tom Thibodeau. Neither franchise wanted to risk disrupting chemistry. However, hindsight may have changed some perspectives. Boston collapsed in the second round to the Knicks, and the series took a devastating turn in Game 4 when Jayson Tatum tore his right Achilles tendon. Without their leader, the Celtics lost in six games and exited the playoffs. Durant's presence, in retrospect, may have salvaged their title hopes or at least softened the blow of losing Tatum. Still, with Tatum now potentially out for all of next season and Boston's payroll reaching historic levels, the Celtics are looking to shed salary, not add a $50 million superstar. Advertisement As for the Knicks, they defeated Boston but were promptly exposed in the Eastern Conference Finals by a faster and deeper Pacers team. New York's offense dried up, and defensively, they had no answer for Indiana's spread attack. That playoff failure led to Thibodeau's firing and a sudden shift in their future plans. While New York wasn't interested in Durant in February, that stance may now be softening. Durant nearly joined the Knicks back in 2019 but chose the Brooklyn Nets instead. His history with the New York market is well documented, and some around the league believe a reunion with the city, this time in blue and orange, would be welcomed by both sides if Phoenix lowers its asking price. Still, Boston appears out. Tatum's injury and the team's tax burden make it unlikely they revisit Durant talks. Their focus is reportedly on roster rebalancing and staying under the new punitive second apron. Advertisement NBA Insider Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson has revealed a trade scenario that would allow the Dallas Mavericks to acquire Kevin Durant, without sacrificing their prized 2025 No. 1 overall pick. Still, the Mavericks aren't one of Durant's three preferred destinations. According to multiple reports, Durant has only expressed long-term interest in the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and Miami Heat. Each team has young talent and cap space to craft strong trade packages. The Spurs are said to have 'heavy mutual interest' and already submitted an offer, which was reportedly rejected. The Timberwolves were also involved, but talks collapsed when they refused to include Jaden McDaniels. Durant reportedly has no interest in Minnesota regardless. A new wild card has emerged in the Toronto Raptors. League sources suggest the Raptors could attempt a 'Kawhi-style' surprise move, banking on their market, depth, and playoff credibility to win Durant over after the trade. Advertisement As for Dallas, the wildcard is Kyrie Irving. His long-standing friendship with Durant could pull strings behind the scenes. If the Mavericks can land KD while keeping Flagg, it could reshape the Western Conference overnight. Durant's next chapter is coming, just not where he originally hoped. Celtics Make 'No-Brainer' Payton Pritchard Announcement on Friday

Celtics Make 'No-Brainer' Payton Pritchard Announcement on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While the Boston Celtics fell short of their championship aspirations in 2024-25, the team had some notable bright spots shine throughout this past year's NBA campaign. Advertisement Fifth-year Celtics guard Payton Pritchard put together the best season of his young NBA career, averaging a career-high 14.3 points on 47.2% shooting from the field and 40.7% shooting from behind the three-point arc. Pritchard accomplished these impressive statistics through 77 games off the bench in 2024-25. As such, he was recognized with the NBA's coveted Sixth Man of the Year trophy earlier this year. Unsurprisingly, Pritchard was also recognized as the Celtics' Sixth Man of the Year winner in an announcement on Friday. "The biggest no-brainer of our Awards Series: our Sixth Man of the Year," the team wrote on X. This Sixth Man of the Year trophy marks Pritchard's second honor of the Celtics' postseason award series. The former No. 26 pick was also recognized as the team's Most Improved Player. Advertisement The Celtics still have one more postseason award to announce: the Sharpshooter of the Year. Pritchard is certainly a candidate for this award as well as he boasted the team's best three-point percentage of any player averaging at least one attempt per game. Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard (11).Bob DeChiara-Imagn Images The Celtics' 2024-25 season came to an end with a second-round playoff loss the the New York Knicks. In Game 4, Boston superstar Jayson Tatum suffered an Achilles tendon tear. With Tatum out for the majority of the 2025-26 season, Pritchard will likely serve an even more integral role in the Celtics' upcoming NBA campaign.
