Gerik bus crash: Taskforce established to investigate Gerik bus accident

GERIK: The police will set up a taskforce to probe the recent road accident involving a bus and another vehicle here, says Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
The Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director stated that the investigation team would be formed in collaboration with other technical teams.
The team will include officers from the Road Transport Department, Land Public Transport Agency, Puspakom, Health Ministry, and Public Works Department.
"We will set up a special technical team to assist in the investigation and complete the investigation paper as soon as possible so we can bring the driver to court.
"I advise the public, if you have any information about this incident, please come forward to the police or relevant authorities to assist with the investigation.
"Please do not just spread it on social media, as this will only add confusion and hinder our investigation," he told reporters at the Gerik hospital on Monday (June 9).
When asked if the bus driver had any previous road traffic offences, Mohd Yusri said they were still at the initial stage of the investigation.
"I can only say for now that we will complete the investigation paper and look into the matter thoroughly from all angles, so we can expedite the prosecution process in court smoothly and properly.
"The team will try to obtain all relevant reports on the bus, its condition, the driver, and so on. That's all the information I can provide for now," he added.
Mohd Yusri also urged the public to be more cautious while driving, especially during this festive period.
"Today is the final day of Ops Lancar, and we want to ensure the safety of everyone returning home to arrive safely at their destinations or homes," he added.

"Our investigation revealed that StarMart Express failed to ensure its employees upheld safe driving standards, which is a clear breach of their licensing obligations," Apad said in a statement posted on social media. The agency said the action was taken after it found the operator had breached Section 22(1)(b)(iii) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010, which governs the conduct of drivers and conductors of public service vehicles. "Other offences include violating Section 23(1)(b), which requires licensed operators and their employees to give the highest priority to the safety of passengers and road users. "There was also a breach of Paragraph 7 under the General Conditions of the Service Level Agreement, which requires licensed operators to ensure that their employees and drivers behave appropriately while on duty," it said. Apad said that during the suspension period, the operator is strictly prohibited from providing any services under the suspended licence. It added that no transactions involving the suspended licence will be entertained until the suspension is lifted. "The suspension will only be lifted upon written confirmation and approval by Apad."
