OCR posts lower net profit, revenue in Q1
KUALA LUMPUR: OCR Group Bhd recorded a lower net profit of RM408,000 for the first quarter ended March 31 2025 compared to RM1.02 million net profit a year ago.
Its revenue stood at RM32.78 million against RM33.97 million previously, amid a normalising cost environment following the completion of key developments.
OCR said the softer performance was anticipated, given the reduced contribution from completed projects.
Its revenue for the quarter was primarily derived from progress in ongoing residential developments such as The Mate @ Damansara Jaya, Stellar Damansara, and Kyra Collection (Kyra) - Residensi Akasia.
The projects continue to underpin OCR's earnings visibility while new phases are being prepared for launch, it added.
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, revenue rose significantly from RM4.0 million in Q4 FY2024, reflecting the completion and billing of Isola KLCC in the current quarter.
However, its pre-tax profit normalised to RM0.37 million from RM3.80 million in the immediate preceding quarter, which had included one-off gains from the revaluation of investment properties.
Group managing director Billy Ong Kah Hoe said while margins moderated during the quarter following the completion of key projects, OCR's topline recovery demonstrated the strength of its development portfolio.
"We continue to focus on prudent cost management, timely project execution, and tapping into strategic government-backed initiatives to expand our affordable housing offerings."
He added that with a healthy pipeline of projects, OCR continues to be well-positioned to tap into growing demand in both the affordable and mid-market segments.
The company is preparing to launch D'Templer Hilltop Residences in Rawang, a RM344 million GDV project targeted for Q2 2025.
The project aligns with OCR's strategy to deliver lifestyle-oriented urban housing with broad market appeal, it said.
OCR will continue to focus on market-driven developments that meet evolving homebuyer preferences.
"With supportive policies under 2025 Budget, including the RM10 billion Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme, and a projected national GDP growth of 4.5-5.5 per cent, the group anticipates stable property demand in key growth corridors, it said.

UTM trio develops 24-hour self-service printing solution
JOHOR BAHRU: What began as a trivial issue - printing assignments outside regular hours - became the driving force behind an innovative venture by three Universiti Teknologi Malaysia students, who developed PrintTEX, a self-service kiosk offering round-the-clock printing access. Fikri Akmal Aizuddin, a final-year computer science student, said the kiosk is complemented by the PrintTEX mobile app, which offers on-demand printing services with rates as low as RM0.20 for black and white and RM0.45 for colour prints. 'The PrintTEX app comes with several handy features, such as users being able to find the nearest kiosk, upload documents and make payments online. 'Users just need to install the app, upload their documents, make a minimum payment of RM3, and then head to the kiosk to scan the QR code and print straight away,' he said when met by Bernama here.\ Fikri Akmal Aizuddin said they first developed a basic prototype or minimum viable product (MVP) in August 2023 using their own funds, which covered development costs, hardware such as printers, storage systems and other electronic components. He shared that with full support from the UTM Centre for Student Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship, his team successfully secured RM30,000 from the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) to assist with system development, documentation, and company registration. 'We developed the entire system ourselves, from the mobile app and integration platform to printer configuration and payment management. It took us around six months for the research and development and another month or two to build the first unit,' he said. Currently, two PrintTEX kiosks are available at the UTM Skudai campus – one in the 24-hour Study Room at the Sultanah Zanariah Library and another at Arked Lestari – while a third unit is operating outside Johor at UNISEL Bestari Jaya in Selangor. The company has also been approached by two higher education institutions under MARA that have expressed interest in allocating space for the installation of the Internet of Things (IoT)-based kiosk at their campuses.

Ramanan fetes 311 top SPM students from Sungai Buloh
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency, in collaboration with Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR), celebrates 311 students who achieved outstanding results in the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination on Saturday (June 21). Its MP, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, said the initiative, which involves an allocation of RM143,200, aims to recognise the students' achievements and encourage them to strive for further success. "Today, a total of 311 students with excellent results benefited from YBR's corporate social responsibility programme. This is not a new initiative, but part of an ongoing effort. "In the past, nearly RM500,000 has been channelled to the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency service centre through various programmes, including 'Back to School'. We plan to continue these efforts in the coming years," the Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister told reporters here. The students were from 11 schools across Sungai Buloh. Ten of them scored 11As, 17 scored 10As, 83 scored 9As, 82 scored 8As, and 119 obtained 7As. – Bernama
