Telegram boss Pavel Durov says all his 100-plus kids will get a slice of his $13.9 billion fortune — eventually

Business Insider6 hours ago

Telegram cofounder and CEO Pavel Durov said all of his 100-plus children will get a slice of his billions — eventually.
The boss of the messaging platform told French outlet Le Point that he's the "official father" of six children from three partners, and has more than 100 offspring in 12 countries after donating his sperm.
"I make no difference between my children. There are those who were conceived naturally and those who come from my sperm donations," Durov said.
"They are all my children and will all have the same rights. I don't want them to tear each other apart after my death."
The Russian-born entrepreneur has an estimated net worth of almost $14 billion, per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
"I wrote my will very recently ... I decided that my children would not have access to my fortune until a period of 30 years has elapsed, starting from today," he told Le Point.
"I want them to live like normal people, to build themselves up alone, to learn to trust themselves, to be able to create, not to be dependent on a bank account."
Durov explained that he wrote a will despite only being 40 because his work involved risks and he had enemies from within "powerful states."
He set up Telegram in 2013 after previously founding the Russian social media network VK. Telegram has about one billion active users globally.
Durov was arrested last year after French authorities accused him of being complicit in allowing criminal activity to occur on Telegram. He again denied all the criminal charges laid against him.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson earlier this month, Durov said he was still unable to travel freely almost a year after being arrested.
Asked about the comparisons with Elon Musk, he told Le Point he was very different to the world's richest person: "Elon runs several companies at once, while I only run one. Elon can be very emotional, while I try to think deeply before acting — but that can also be the source of his strength."

Like Durov, Musk also has a number of children. In March Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis said she'd had her fourth child with the Tesla CEO.
In response to a comment about his youthful appearance, Durov said his exercise routine involved 300 push-ups in a row, followed by 300 squats.
"I don't drink alcohol, coffee, or tea, I don't smoke and I stay away from sugar," Durov added.

Tech Founder Pledges to Leave $17 Billion Fortune to His 106 Children

Originally appeared on E! Online Pavel Durov is leaving a special message in his family group chat. The Telegram founder recently revealed that he's dividing his massive fortune—an estimated $17.1 billion, per Forbes—between all 106 of his children. 'I want to specify that I make no difference between my children: There are those who were conceived naturally and those who come from my sperm donations,' Durov, 40, told French outlet Le Point in an interview published June 19. 'They are all my children and will all have the same rights. I don't want them to tear each other apart after my death.' Indeed, the Russian tech mogul explained that he's the 'official father' of six children from three different partners. Meanwhile, he decided to 'help a friend' by becoming a sperm donor nearly 15 years ago, resulting in him fathering 100 kids across 12 countries. More from E! In fact, Durov—who launched Telegram, a cloud-based messaging app, alongside his brother Nikolai Durov in 2013—noted his offspring will not have access to their inheritances until '30 years' after the day of his interview with the French publication. 'I want them to live like normal people,' he continued, 'to build themselves up alone, to learn to trust themselves, to be able to create, not to be dependent on a bank account.' This revelation comes months after the billionaire was arrested and charged in France with enabling illegal crimes, ranging from child sex abuse material and drug trafficking, to occur on his platform last August. While Durov is out on bail, he faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted, according to the New York Times. As for his growing fortune, Durov isn't the only billionaire that's been open about passing down assets to their next of kin. In fact, Bill Gates—who shares kids Jennifer, 28, Rory, 25, and Phoebe, 22, with ex-wife Melinda French Gates—revealed he's leaving 'less than one percent' of his reported $116 billion fortune to his family, which amounts to over $1 billion. 'It's not a dynasty,' he explained on Raj Shamani's Figuring Out podcast in March, noting that giving his children a larger portion 'wouldn't be a favor to them.' 'I'm not asking them to run Microsoft. I want to give them a chance to have their own earnings and success, be significant and not overshadowed by the incredible luck and good fortune I had.' Google, Apple, Meta Passwords Exposed in Massive Hack: Report

"Massive datasets" have been emerging every few weeks, according to a new report. Almost all major platforms were affected by a massive breach, including datasets from Apple, Google, Facebook, Telegram, GitHub, and other platforms (government, too), according to Cybernews. Cybernews reports that 30 databases have been stolen (social media, VPN logins, corporate and developer platforms), exposing 16 billion passwords, calling it "one of the largest data breaches in history." Related: Over 10 Billion Passwords Have Been Exposed in Massive Password Hack The outlet also says that "massive datasets" have been emerging every few weeks, though this is the first reporting of the hack. Cybernews does note that Wired reported in May about a "mysterious database" being exposed with 184 million records — a "trove of breached data" that included logins for Google, Meta, and Apple. But 184 million is a lot less than 16 billion, which the outlet claims is the actual scope of the breach. Tom's Guide is running a live blog about the incident and notes several ways people can protect themselves from scammers, including enabling two-factor authentication (2FA), which makes it much more difficult for hackers to get into your accounts, and using a password manager to help keep your information secure. Kevin Durant buys minority stake in Paris Saint-Germain, will advise club on basketball expansion

Associated Press PARIS (AP) — NBA star Kevin Durant has purchased a minority stake in Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain, the French soccer club said Friday. Qatar Sports Investments, PSG's majority shareholder, signed an investment and strategic partnership agreement with Durant, the club said in a statement. Financial terms were not disclosed. The announcement comes amid talks between the NBA, FIBA and other entities about the potential of adding a new league in Europe. Durant will provide expertise on the PSG's multi-port strategy, including potential expansion into basketball, the club said. 'Under the terms of the partnership, Durant — via his media and investment company Boardroom, co-founded with long-time business partner Rich Kleiman — will acquire a direct minority stake in the club,' PSG's statement said. The Phoenix Suns forward is a two-time NBA champion and became the first four-time men's gold medalist in Olympic basketball history when the U.S. took gold at last summer's Paris Games. 'It is an honor to partner with QSI and be a shareholder in Paris Saint-Germain — a club and city that is deeply close to my heart," the 36-year-old Durant said in comments provided by PSG. 'This club has big plans and I look forward to being part of the next phase of growth and exploring new investment opportunities with QSI.' As part of the deal, Boardroom Sports Holdings — Durant's personal investment vehicle, which holds stakes in a number of major sports teams and leagues — and QSI will join forces on a wide range of commercial, investment and content production initiatives. PSG added that Durant will support the club's diversification and growth strategy, as well as the club's development in the U.S. and other international markets. 'Together with Kevin, we look forward to developing ambitious initiatives that will drive the continued global growth of Paris Saint-Germain and QSI,' PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi said. ___ AP soccer: recommended in this topic
