Delhi University Begins Admission Process; Class 10 Marks Now A Tie-Breaker

NDTV3 days ago

Delhi University (DU) has commenced the admission process for the 2025-26 academic year, with the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal now live for undergraduate registrations.
A key change in this year's process is the introduction of Class 10 board exam scores as an additional tie-breaker when students have the same CUET and Class 12 marks. Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh said the admission portal has been upgraded with an auto-accept option to prevent students from missing seat allotments.
DU is offering 79 undergraduate programmes across 69 colleges, with 71,624 seats available. The academic session will begin on August 1.
The second phase of UG admissions will begin after the CUET results are declared. Students can now apply using either one language and three subjects or two languages and two subjects - whichever combination gives a higher score will be considered. The earlier rule of requiring at least 30% marks in language subjects for BSc (Hons) has been dropped.
DU has also launched admissions for skill-based programmes through its Centre for Innovative Skill-Based Courses.
At the postgraduate level, 11,314 seat allocations have been made so far, and nearly 2,000 students accepted their seats within the first two hours of announcements. This year, DU is offering 82 postgraduate programmes, including new additions like MA in Tourism Management and MA in Hindi Journalism. Plans are also underway to launch an MA in Journalism under the English department.
The university has introduced a one-seat quota in each postgraduate programme for single-girl child applicants.
Additionallly, admission portals are now open for five-year integrated law, BTech, and School of Open Learning (SOL) programmes. Most PG admissions in SOL will be based on CUET scores, though MBA, BLISc, MLISc, and PGDADLM programmes will continue to follow a merit-based route.

Canada, a move away from the Rockies

Recognising a problem is the first step towards a solution. By that metric, Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has taken an important step towards repairing a troubled India-Canada relationship. A recent CSIS report acknowledges the existence of Canada-based Khalistani extremists who continue to promote, fund and/or plan acts of violence targeting India. Not only do they mean harm to India, CSIS says these groups also threaten Canadian national security. That is lucid observation. The report's findings dovetail efforts by PM Mark Carney to repair and restore the bilateral relationship left hanging precariously by his predecessor Justin Trudeau. Recognition of continued operations of Canada-based Khalistani extremists is an important departure from the recent past when focus was turned on alleged involvement of Indian officials in the 2023 killing of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar. While perceptions of the threat may differ, acknowledgement that it's an issue of concern for both countries will allow addressing it, and avoid the kind of strange food fight that had broken out before. Like any long-standing relationship, especially between two democracies, there have been ups and downs. But, on balance, it has been a good one. The current fractured geopolitical and geo-economic landscape, exacerbated by unpredictability of the Trump regime - his continued suggestion of annexing Canada and newfound friendship with Pakistan and its generals - adds urgency to restoring and augmenting New Delhi-Ottawa ties. Working together and tackling problems with mutual respect, for mutual benefit, should become a SOP, allowing both nations to leverage the past - beyond the too-recent past, that is - and take on multiple challenges.

Maha Mumbai Metro achieves record daily ridership of 2.94 lakh

Mumbai: The Maha Mumbai Metro achieved its highest-ever daily ridership on June 18, 2025, with 2,94,681 commuters using the city's Metro Lines 2A and 7. This development marked a new milestone in Mumbai's urban transit journey. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Officials from the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL) said, "The record numbers are attributed to the growing trust of Mumbaikars, seamless operations, and the widespread adoption of its digital ticketing system." The official further stated that over 65% of the tickets on that day were booked via the WhatsApp-based ticketing platform, reflecting the success of its technology-driven commuter services. "This achievement is a reflection of Mumbaikars' continued confidence in the metro network and the relentless commitment of our staff. We are grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown by our commuters," said a senior MMMOCL official. This surpasses the previous ridership high of over 2.92 lakh recorded on October 8, 2024, the day Mumbai received its new metro connection between Aarey Colony and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Earlier, on June 6, 2024, the network recorded a ridership of 2,60,471 in a single day. Metro Lines 2A and 7, operated by MMMOCL, have become vital cogs in Mumbai's suburban transport ecosystem. The 18.6-km-long Metro Line 2A connects Dahisar to D N Nagar via 17 stations, linking with Metro Lines 1, 2B, and 6. Meanwhile, the 16.5-km-long Metro Line 7 runs from Dahisar East to Andheri East, significantly decongesting the Western Express Highway and integrating with key metro corridors across the city.
