Watch Oregon high school track star somersault over finish line, win first place
A high school Oregon track star somersaulted her way through the state championship finish line last week.
Brooklyn Anderson, a junior at Thurston High School, turned heads during her somersault finish in the girls' 100-meter hurdles at the Oregon State Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on May 30. To much surprise, Anderson tumbled in at first place. Thurston High School is located in Springfield, Oregon, about 120 miles south of Portland.
Footage captured by the National Federation of State High School Associations shows Anderson, who was already ahead in the race, tripping and performing a double somersault across the finish line. She won the race with a final time of 14.93 seconds. The second-place runner, Maisy Scanlan from Wilsonville High School, came in at 15.15 seconds, according to the Oregon School Activities Association.
"All I remember is resorting back to my gymnastics career and just somersaulting over that line," Anderson told The Oregonian after her race. "I wasn't sure how far back everybody else was behind me, so I knew to just keep rolling, to keep going, because I really wanted to get first."
Celebrating the win, Anderson shared a photo and video of her somersault finish on Instagram.
"Wow, what a memorable season," Anderson wrote in the Instagram post. "Year 3 is one for the books. Thank you everybody for the support, and especially thank you to the most amazing heat of girls a girl could finish a race with. You guys are awesome. GO COLTS #jryear #somersault #track #100mhurdles."
The 500-meter hurdles weren't the only event Anderson competed in. She also placed fourth in the girls' 100-meter race, third in girls' long jump and 10th in the girls' 4-by-100-meter relay, per the Oregon School Activities Association.

Deion Sanders seen fishing with Travis Hunter in encouraging health update
Travis Hunter visited Coach Prime in Texas ❤️ Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has been dealing with an unspecified health issue, but is on the mend, according to his eldest son Deion Jr. Deion Jr. posted a video to his YouTube account Saturday that showed Sanders fishing at his estate in Texas with former Colorado football star Travis Hunter. "It's a beautiful thing," Deion Sanders Jr. says in the video. "Coach Prime back active, moving around. God is great. Not back active moving around, but it's progress." The Colorado head coach has been away from the program since April and did not attend the university's annual youth football camps earlier this month. Sanders' return to Boulder is still uncertain, but he appears closer to resuming his full-time duties soon with the latest update. He is scheduled to attend the Big 12 Conference Media Days on July 9 in Frisco, Texas. The video is encouraging, as was a recent visit by Sanders' former Dallas Cowboys teammate, Michael Irvin. The two Hall of Famers were seen laughing at Sanders' Texas estate with Irvin joking about throwing a party when Sanders returns to Boulder. While the health issue does not seem to be too serious, Sanders admitted in late May that he lost 14 pounds. As Colorado awaits Sanders' return, the Buffaloes continue gearing up for the season, with Georgia Tech set to visit Boulder for the Aug. 29 opener. LSU baseball's Kade Anderson wins College World Series Most Outstanding Player
LSU baseball won its eighth national title on Sunday, sweeping Coastal Carolina in the College World Series Final. Sunday's final was 5-3, highlighted by LSU's four-run fourth inning. As expected, pitching was the story in this series, and it's LSU pitcher Kade Anderson taking home the College World Series' Most Outstanding Player award. Anderson tossed a complete game shutout in Game 1 as LSU won a 1-0 pitchers' duel. In nine innings, Anderson threw 130 pitches, striking out nine and allowing just three hits. Anderson walked five, a career high, but the LSU star continually responded to work out of jams. Anderson's first start in Omaha was in LSU's CWS opener vs. Arkansas last Saturday. Anderson went seven innings, allowing just one run and three hits. In 16 innings in Omaha, batters totaled only six hits vs. the LSU lefty. Anderson was one of the best pitchers in the country all year and has a chance to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

LOOK: Top 2026 recruits try on Michigan uniforms during Victors Weekend visits
Victors Weekend, Michigan football's biggest recruiting push of the year, has now come to a close, and now the Wolverines are sitting back and waiting on the results to start rolling in. The maize and blue tend to start slow, with the onus of getting pledges coming with official visits, and the top weekend is the final one before the dead period, where the bulk of the already-committed Wolverines also make it to campus, along with top targets that Michigan has been seeking after. Now that the visits are coming to a close, many of the top names who made it to Ann Arbor posted to social media pictures of themselves enjoying the scenery. At this juncture, a few haven't (offensive line targets Kelvin Obot and Malakai Lee), but we'll update should they post down the road. Here are some of the pictures of top recruits wearing the winged helmet. Miami (Fla.) Northwestern five-star WR Calvin Russell Russell made a post on his Instagram story, which was captured by The Wolverine. Here he is walking out of the Lloyd Carr Tunnel at Michigan Stadium. X user @sawmillnate also screencapped his Instagram story, showing him walking out of the tunnel with Bryce Underwood. QB commit Brady Smigiel and WR Calvin Russell with Bryce Underwood Not to be outdone, Newbury Park (Calif.) four-star quarterback commit Brady Smigiel took to X himself to post quite the trio. WR commit Jaylen Pile The second-longest tenured commit in the 2026 class, Dallas (Tx.) Parish Episcopal three-star wide receiver Jaylen Pile was on hand with his family. Prosper (Tx.) four-star OT Zaden Krempin The often Korn t-shirt-clad Krempin was in Ann Arbor and posted some pictures of his visit. As it's his birthday, Michigan IOL commit Bear McWhorter posted a picture of the duo with offensive line coach Grant Newsome asking fans to with Krempin a happy birthday. Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork four-star EDGE Julian Walker Not as highly publicized of a visit, given that it appeared he was leaning elsewhere, Walker was quite active posting pictures and comments of his visit. But the coup de grâce came in a later post of his. Michigan's dream line? The Wolverines have already hosted several big defensive line commits and prospects, but Victors Weekend had the cream of the crop. Walker posted a series of pictures with himself (wearing No. 8), Titan Davis (No. 97), Carter Meadows (No. 11), and commit Tariq Boney (No. 44). Atlanta (Ga.) Woodward Academy four-star ATH Blake Stewart Another visitor who hasn't been discussed as much lately is Blake Stewart. The Wolverine screencapped his Instagram story. Liberty commit Kaden Catchings A recent offer, Flowood (Miss.) Hartfield Academy three-star linebacker Kaden Catchings visited, despite having committed to the Flames last week. EDGE commit McHale Blade with legendary DE Brandon Graham Blade actually took his official visit weeks ago but came back to campus to help recruit. But he also had a pretty nice run in with recently retired Philadelphia Eagles and former Michigan star Brandon Graham. Tight end duo Michigan got its two tight ends committed before the official visit cycle started, and Billings (Mont.) West four-star TE Matt Ludwig posted pictures of himself, along with fellow commit, Mason Bonner, in Ann Arbor together.
