Son of Sir Sean Connery behind largest wave pool in Europe
Jason Connery, son of the late acting legend Sir Sean Connery, has invested £1 million in a groundbreaking inland surf park near Edinburgh.
The Lost Shore Surf Resort, located in Ratho, represents a significant investment in Scotland 's leisure landscape, with Connery stating the project 'brings something truly special to Scotland.'
Opened in November, the £60 million resort boasts Europe's largest and most technologically advanced wave pool. Capable of generating up to 1,000 adjustable waves per hour, the pool offers a unique surfing experience alongside a 250-metre artificial beachfront.
Founded by Andy Hadden, the resort aims to become a hub for both seasoned surfers and those looking to experience the thrill of riding waves for the first time.
Mr Connery, who co-owns First Stage Studios in Leith, Edinburgh, with business partner Bob Last, said: 'Lost Shore Surf Resort is an exciting and ambitious project that brings something truly special to Scotland.
'It offers incredible opportunities not only for sport and recreation but also for the local economy.
'Andy Hadden's vision for the resort is inspiring, and I am pleased to support a business that aligns with my passion for Scottish enterprise, sport and culture.

Beyond the wave pool itself, Lost Shore Surf Resort provides a comprehensive leisure experience. Visitors can enjoy on-site accommodation, dining options, and professional surf instruction through the resort's dedicated surf school.
The resort is projected to welcome more than 160,000 visitors a year.
Mr Hadden said: 'These funds will help us take the project to the next level.

Thought I might actually make this happen, with only about 900 people ahead of me when queue opened and it moving rapidly. 'Had no idea only about 300 tickets available. Scottish Highlands holiday lets control zone proposed
Councillors proposing the move said that 7011 short-term let licences had been granted across the region, but only four had been refused, according to the BBC. While holiday lets are not banned in control areas, operators need planning permission as well as a short-term lets licence. They said the region needed more than 24,000 homes over the next 10 years, writing in a paper submitted to the council: "The private long-term rental market has shrunk disastrously: estate agents are withdrawing from letting out properties because of the shortage of properties available. "Even taking into account the efforts of Highland Council and the Housing Associations, there is a shortage of affordable housing." The councillors said Highlands Council should first ask the Scottish Government to revisit its original plan to have an overprovision policy within short-term lets legislation. They said if that was not possible, to then seek approval for Highland control area status. They said that it would require research and, if introduced, could mean additional costs and workload for its planning department. Elsewhere in Scotland, Edinburgh was officially designated Scotland's first short-term let control area in September 2022. Meanwhile, a law requiring operators to have a licence came into force across Scotland in October 2023.
