Zahid on four-day working visit to Britain
LONDON: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is set to undertake a four-day working visit to Britain from June 1 to 4.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, will be accompanied by senior government officials from the Foreign Ministry, Rural and Regional Development Ministry, and Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry.
The visit comes on the heels of recent high-level engagements between Malaysia and the UK, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit in January and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof's visit in April, signalling Malaysia's commitment to enhancing multilateral and bilateral cooperation.
High Commissioner of Malaysia to the UK Datuk Zakri Jaafar said Malaysia, as the Asean Chair for 2025, will use this opportunity to share the progress achieved under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability' and to discuss future regional strategies and programmes.
"According to the itinerary, Ahmad Zahid and his delegation are expected to arrive at Heathrow International Airport at approximately 8.15pm on June 1," he told reporters at the Malaysian High Commission.
Among the key highlights of the visit is a bilateral meeting scheduled for June 2 with UK Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Steve Reed, he added.
"The discussion will focus not only on enhancing Malaysia-UK cooperation but also delve into disaster risk management, aligning with Ahmad Zahid's role as Chair of the Central Disaster Management Committee.
On the same day, Ahmad Zahid is slated to deliver a keynote address at the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Forum titled 'Malaysia's TVET Leadership in Asean Building Skills for a Shared Future' at University College London (UCL), Zakri said.
"The forum will gather representatives from Asean missions in the UK, students, university officials, academics, and researchers.
"Later that evening, Ahmad Zahid will host a special gathering with approximately 120 Malaysian students based in the UK, reinforcing the government's engagement with the diaspora community," he added.
Zakri said on June 3, Ahmad Zahid will chair two roundtable meetings—one with UK-based franchise industry players and another with tourism sector agencies.
"He is also scheduled to officiate the UK launch of Visit Malaysia Year 2026, aimed at promoting Malaysia as a premier travel destination for the UK and broader European markets.
"To support this promotional drive, the Deputy Prime Minister will participate in exclusive media interviews with prominent travel publications TTG Media and Wanderlust.
"The visit will conclude with Ahmad Zahid's departure to Geneva on June 4, continuing his overseas engagements," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his appreciation to former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain for his service, contributions, and leadership during his tenure heading the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Razarudin, who joined PDRM in 1982, was appointed as the 14th IGP for a two-year contract after his retirement, effective June 23, 2023, and will conclude his service this Sunday. Throughout his career, Razarudin held several important positions, including Head of Penang Criminal Investigation Department in 2016, Deputy Commissioner of Sabah Police (2016), Deputy Chief Police Officer of Perak (2018), Chief Police Officer of Perak (2019), Director of Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (2020), and Deputy Inspector-General of Police (2021). Earlier, Bukit Aman Special Branch Director Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail was appointed as the 15th IGP, replacing Razarudin, effective today. Meanwhile, in a separate post, Anwar also stated that he had received a farewell courtesy call from the Chief of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan, who will retire on June 26. AGC denies ‘flawed prosecution' claims after Najib's DNAA in second SRC case, delays due to overlapping cases
KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 — The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has dismissed as baseless allegations that it carried out a 'flawed prosecution' in the second SRC International Sdn Bhd case involving Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. In a statement, the AGC reiterated its firm commitment to upholding the rule of law and stated that it would continue to fulfill its responsibilities under the Federal Constitution with integrity, fairness and respect for the judicial process. However, the AGC acknowledged the decision by High Court Judge K Muniandy to grant Najib a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on three charges of money laundering involving RM27 million in funds from the company. 'The case was registered in the High Court on Feb 7, 2019, and scheduled for trial on five occasions: June 2020, July to August 2021, March to April 2022, September 2024 and April to May 2025. 'However, all trial dates were postponed due to the Movement Control Order caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, requests by the defence, or applications by the prosecution itself,' the statement read. According to the statement, the prosecution's requests for postponement were due to the ongoing trial of the first SRC case, which proceeded at the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court until its completion on March 31, 2023. At the same time, the trial proceedings for the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case had also begun while the first SRC case was still ongoing. 'Both cases involved overlapping material documents required for the second SRC trial. 'As these documents were critical to the second SRC case, the prosecution had no choice but to wait until they were available, which was until the 1MDB trial proceedings were completed. 'It must be emphasised that the material documents are available but are currently being used as evidence in the ongoing 1MDB trial,' the AGC said. The AGC further stated that the prosecution had requested additional time to gather all relevant material documents to be presented as evidence in the second SRC trial. 'This delay was not intentional but was to ensure the integrity of the documents as evidence in the trial is preserved,' the statement read. Earlier today, Judge Muniandy, in granting Najib a DNAA on the three charges, stated that the case had been pending for six years since 2019, without any witness testimony being presented, having faced multiple postponements, which indicated that the prosecution was not ready to proceed with the trial. On Feb 3, 2019, Najib claimed trial to three charges of money laundering by accepting illegal proceeds amounting to RM27 million through his three AmPrivate Banking accounts at AmIslamic Bank Berhad, AmBank Group Building, Jalan Raja Chulan on July 8, 2014. The former Pekan MP was charged under Section 4 (1) (a) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001, which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM5 million or imprisonment of up to five years, or both upon conviction. Najib is currently serving a jail term in Kajang Prison for the misappropriation of RM42 million in the SRC International funds case. Saifuddin Nasution heads list of 1,015 honoured in Sabah governor's 74th birthday, Fuziah to also get ‘Datuk'
KOTA KINABALU, June 21 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail heads a list of 1,015 recipients of state honours in conjunction with the 74th official birthday of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman. Saifuddin Nasution was conferred the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Panglima'. Also receiving the SPDK were Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim, as well as businessmen Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and Datuk Lim Yu Ming. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Deputy Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh and Tourism, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan were among the 78 recipients of the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) award, which carries the title of 'Datuk'. Other PGDK recipients include Senator Anna Bell @ Suzieana Perian, Labuan MP Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang, and Pantai Manis assemblyman Mohd Tamin Zainal.
