Reports now confirm that the team is working on a max-term eight-year deal with forward Trent Frederic, a move that's catching many off guard.
Frederic, who was acquired mid-season from the Boston Bruins, played a minor role in the Oilers' postseason, notching only four points. He appeared in just one regular-season game after arriving in Edmonton. Despite his limited involvement, Bowman is clearly banking on Frederic's upside and long-term value.

In 2023–24 with the Boston Bruins, Trent Frederic had a breakout campaign, scoring 18 goals and tallying 40 points across 79 games. Before his injury this season, he managed eight goals and 15 points in 57 games. Those numbers aren't elite, but they are steady for a middle-six forward.
Edmonton likely sees Frederic as a valuable depth piece, someone who can be a physical presence and offer secondary scoring. However, critics argue the contract term is a risky gamble, especially since Frederic hasn't had the opportunity to showcase himself in a playoff setting consistently.

India dominated the mixed doubles SL3-SU5 event, sweeping all three medals, with Nitesh Kumar and Thulasimathi Murgesan taking gold in a clinical straight-sets win over Ruthick Raghupathi and Manasi Joshi, while Chirag Baretha and Mandeep Kaur earned bronze. In men's singles SL4, Surya Kant Yadav earned a silver after a hard-fought final against Malaysia's Mohd Amin Burhanuddin, with Naveen Sivakumar taking bronze. Nitesh Kumar's golden run continued in men's singles SL3, where he defeated Indonesia's Muh Ai Imran in straight sets, with Umesh Vikram Kumar securing bronze. England batter Harry Brook and India's Mohammed Siraj had a brief exchange of words in the middle when the Englishman was frustrating the Indian bowlers with his innings on Sunday. Brook would ultimately miss his century by 1 run, getting dismissed by Prasidh Krishna for 99 but the heated war of words with Siraj had the internet talking. The incident happened in the 5th ball of the 84th over when Brook tries to push forward but missed the ball and it hit his elbow, back thigh and rolled away. Brook looked back to see where the ball went and when he turned back to Siraj, he saw the bowler staring with the pair engaging ina bit of back and forth before normal services resumed. Krishna offered two loose balls in the first over of the day and Brook duly put them for a four through point and six off over mid-wicket. Brook's tactics against the pacers, including Bumrah, stood out as he charged down to them for aerial drives over extra cover. Krishna, in his following over, was lucky to get Pope out as the England number three edged a short and wide ball to the keeper.
