His Excellency Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, said, 'This project represents a significant addition to the public amenities of Muscat Governorate, carrying symbolic and cultural value.'

Located at Al Khuwair Square, the 126-meter-tall flagpole is supported by a robust foundation system. The flagpole itself was built using 141 metric tons of Jindal structural steel and 135 metric tons of Jindal rebar, totaling 276 metric tons of high-quality Jindal steel. The project spans a total plot area of 21,638 sq. m and includes green landscaping featuring 57 diverse species of vegetation. Customized design elements such as wayfinding signage, a Mashrabiya pattern integrated around the flagpole, and decorative marble paving at the podium enhance the aesthetic appeal. The square also includes a range of public facilities such as open lawns, walkways, a central sunken plaza, kiosks, a 415-meter cycle path, cafeteria with drive-thru, public amenities, parking for 73 cars, and thoughtfully designed site furniture.
Jindal Steel's broader CSR strategy further underscores its deep commitment to national development. Over the years, the company has launched and supported numerous initiatives across sports, education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and social empowerment. The development of the tallest flagpole is a natural extension of this legacy—a visible, lasting tribute to the values of giving back, nation-building, and fostering collective pride.

Oman: MoCIIP signs agreements to boost industrial workforce
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) signed a series of strategic agreements for building national capabilities in the Sultanate of Oman's industrial sector. The agreements were inked on Monday in the presence of several high-ranking officials, including Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy. The MoUs, with private and public sector organisations, are part of broader efforts to implement the Industrial Strategy 2040. The national strategy is designed to create a knowledge-based, diversified industrial base and increase the contribution of Omani talent to the sector. One of the key initiatives includes the establishment of an industrial training centre in Al Batinah North Governorate through a memorandum of understanding between the ministry, the Governor's Office, and Jindal Steel. The centre will be used to impart specialised training to enhance the employment opportunities for Omani youth. Eng Sami bin Salim al Sahib, Corporate Strategist at Jindal Steel, commented on the occasion, "In alignment with the endeavours towards realising the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and the national Industrial Strategy, a new specialised training centre will be established to aid in capacity building in the industrial sector." The project falls within the third pillar of the strategy — developing national capabilities — and will offer high-level technical training based on industry needs. The centre will be built to the highest standards, and all costs will be incurred by Jindal Steel. Eng Al Sahib added, "In its first phase, the centre will focus on training and qualifying job seekers for employment in the sector. In the second phase, the programme will be expanded to upskilling and professional development of current industrial staff, strengthening the national workforce and long-term industrial development." Another milestone agreement was with Daleel Petroleum to fund the creation of "Tasneea," an e-platform linking industrial procurement and contracts with local manufacturers, fostering local content and improving supply chain efficiencies. Oman Cables Industry also launched its training programmes, as a model for effective industrial training and reaffirming the ministry's emphasis on human capital development. Oman Cables Chief Operating Officer, Mohannad al Lawati, detailed the scope and range of the programmes, saying that, "Over 400 employees have been registered in technical and professional development programmes, while over 33 have been enrolled in leadership training programmes." "A specially designed programme for science and mathematics graduate females has also benefited over 60 with specialist skill development. These programmes serve to bridge the gap between academic study and the practical needs of the labour market," Al Lawati said. For her part, Nasra bint Saif al Habsiyah, Director-General of Commerce, MoCIIP, stated that a cooperation programme has been signed with Al Alamiya Retail Company. The programme involves the provision of 300 opportunities for qualification, training, and employment for the national workforce —100 direct placements with training and 200 training opportunities with future employment. Eng Khalid bin Salim al Qasabi, Director-General of Industry, said, "The agreements will help to build national capacities in the industrial sector by developing qualified local talent, increasing local content, and realising greater added value in the supply chain. These are designed to improve the competitiveness of Omani products and their promotion in foreign markets." Eng Al Qasabi also stated, "The initiative falls under the ministry's general industrial strategy, which includes a package of targeted programmes for improving sector performance, expanding job opportunities for Omanis and coupling national development with the goals of Oman Vision 2040." The ministry reaffirmed its priority for the establishment of an enabling legislative and industrial environment, local and foreign investment promotion, and high value-added industries as its long-term focus for sustainable economic growth.

Muscat: Muscat Municipality officially launched the Muscat Municipality Design Competition 2025 with a site visit recently conducted by His Excellency Ahmed Al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality. The visit marked the formal start of this landmark initiative, which is now underway and drawing global attention as leading architecture studios from around the world prepare to submit their visionary concepts. The selected site, strategically located adjacent to the Mall of Oman and spanning over 8,000 square metres, will serve as the future home of a multi-functional civic building that reflects Muscat's modern aspirations while honouring its rich architectural heritage. Set between the Gulf of Oman and the Hajar Mountains, the site is a unique canvas that speaks to the evolving narrative of urban Oman. 'Muscat is expecting a growing number of tourists in the near future, and the city is doing everything to welcome them in a sustainable way and to the highest standards of quality and beauty,' said His Excellency Ahmed Al Humaidi 'This competition represents a commitment to shaping how Muscat is experienced, through architecture that enhances our urban landscape, honours our heritage and reflects the values we hold as a society. Sharjah launches proactive plan for 5,600 trips during Eid Al Adha holiday
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has put together a special plan for the upcoming Eid Al Adha holiday. This initiative is aimed at making sure travellers can enjoy comfortable and safe transportation as they celebrate the Eid. With an increase in people wanting to travel during this festive time, the SRTA is stepping up its services to ensure everyone can move smoothly between different areas in Sharjah and beyond. Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, the head of the SRTA, highlighted the importance of being well-prepared during holidays. He noted that during the Eid holiday in 2025, which runs from June 5 to 8, there will be a noticeable rise in public transport users. To handle this, the SRTA has made plans to operate 180 buses on various routes, aiming to complete around 5,600 trips over the four days. During peak times, buses will come every 5 minutes instead of the usual 45-minute wait. This means shorter waiting times and more convenience for everyone traveling. The authority is committed to making travel easy for people visiting family or exploring popular destinations, both within the emirate and outside it. They are also increasing staff at busy bus stations, especially the Jubail Bus Station, which will be open from early morning until late at night to accommodate the larger number of passengers expected during this busy holiday. The Authority has improved bus services in Sharjah City for the Eid holiday, making travel easier for everyone. They are running a total of 1,144 bus trips each day across 12 different routes, using 104 buses that connect to 543 stops around the city. During the Eid Al Adha holiday, there will be a special boat service operating between Sharjah and Dubai. Abdul Aziz Al Jarwan, who is in charge of transport at the local authority, announced that there will be four daily trips. These boats will leave from the Aquarium Station in Sharjah and arrive at Al Ghubaiba Station in Dubai, working together with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority. Al Jarwan shared that the Authority is working closely with the Omani transport company, Mwasalat, to run international route 203. This route connects Sharjah with Muscat, the capital of Oman, and offers two flights each day. This service is expected to encourage tourism between the two countries, especially during the Eid holidays.
