
Punjab to roll out multibillion-rupee LDP Phase-II
The Punjab government is set to begin Phase-II of the Lahore Development Programme (LDP) on June 30, the same day the first phase is scheduled for completion.
As part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's development vision for the provincial capital, the administration has established strict deadlines and quality standards for ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects.
Officials say that implementation momentum is gaining pace as the government prepares to transition smoothly from Phase-I to Phase-II of the ambitious citywide programme.
Chief Officer of the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL), Shahid Abbas Kathia, confirmed to APP that monthly review meetings are being conducted to monitor progress.
"June 30 is the firm deadline for Phase-I, and we are committed to delivering results on time," he said, adding that the administration is fully aligned with the chief minister's development goals.
The design and planning for Phase-II have already been finalised, with development activity slated to begin in Wagah, Aziz Bhatti, and Allama Iqbal towns.
Among the major undertakings is the construction of a 312-kilometre-long sewerage network intended to modernize Lahore's aging wastewater infrastructure.
This extensive sewerage revamp will include the installation of new pipelines and the establishment of disposal stations to separate clean water from sewage.
The system will feature two primary routesLine A and Line Bserving the central zone of the city, aimed at addressing long-standing issues of drainage and water contamination.
Officials have indicated that these improvements are part of a broader strategy to enhance urban infrastructure and public health standards in Lahore.

CM to give cattle worth Rs2bn to rural women
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif took another historic step for the financial empowerment and socio-economic development of women living in villages of southern Punjab, as she arranged a better source of employment for the poor and needy rural women. The CM said, 'Poor widows living in villages will get buffaloes and cows. About 11,000 rural women will be given buffaloes and cows with a budget of Rs 2 billion in 12 districts of southern Punjab. As many as 4870 cattle will be given in the first phase of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's unprecedented program.' She highlighted, 'CM Punjab Livestock Assets Program aims to increase milk production and provide employment to rural women at home. Under this program, rural women in Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Layyah and Kot Addu will get free cattle. In Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur too, rural women will get free cattle for a better livelihood.' The CM added, 'Divorced and widowed poor women up to the age of 55 can also apply through the app while sitting at home. Rural women can also contact 'Chief Minister Facilitation Desk' at the Animal Hospital to get free cattle.' Chief Minister said, 'Elimination of poverty gap between villages and cities is our resolve. Economic development is also the right of a daughter living in villages.' The CM emphasised, 'Equal economic opportunities are being provided in cities and villages. Whether a woman lives in a city or in a village, education, health and employment are her basic rights.' He also appreciated Rubio's active diplomacy, particularly his role in facilitating the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India. Highlighting Trump's positive statements on Pakistan, the PM called them encouraging steps toward long-term peace in South Asia. He stressed that sustainable peace could only be achieved through meaningful dialogue between Pakistan and India. In this context, he reiterated Pakistan's readiness to engage in talks with India on all outstanding issues, including Jammu and Kashmir, the Indus Waters Treaty, trade, and counterterrorism cooperation. Nawaz Sharif IT City project: CM reviews progress
LAHORE: World's leading international IT companies have shown interest in investing in Nawaz Sharif IT City project. This was stated in a special meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif here today, to review the progress on the Nawaz Sharif IT City project. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for faster, more effective, and essential steps to ensure the timely establishment and operationalization of the Nawaz Sharif IT City. During the meeting Central Business District CEO Imran Amin said that, 23 major IT companies are ready to set up operations within the Silicon Block of the IT City. The Nawaz Sharif IT City became the first institution in Punjab being approved by the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) which gave a formal approval for the establishment of NSIT Silicon Block. It was further apprised in the meeting, world's renowned international IT groups have expressed their keen interest in the Nawaz Sharif IT City project. As many as 23 well known IT companies are willing to establish their institutions in the Nawaz Sharif IT City Silicon Block. Plots have also been acquired for the establishment of institutions or offices in this regard. It was further informed that world's renowned Imperial College of London will establish a medical college and hospital in collaboration with Novecare. NetCol will establish Pakistan's first comprehensive IT university in the Nawaz Sharif IT City. Roots Group will enter into a joint venture with the British University of Warwick. Similarly, renowned companies namely DataFort and Mari-Tech will also jointly build Tier 3 and Tier 4 data centres. Data Rocks has expressed their interest in establishing Punjab's first FTA-approved lab. CEO CBD Imran Amin gave a detailed briefing on the progress being made on the projects.
