Miri City Youth Festival returns with 36 exciting events at Luak Esplanade

MIRI (June 21): The Miri City Youth Festival (MCYF) is set to return for its seventh edition with an expanded programme featuring 36 events at Luak Esplanade Beach from June 24 to 29.
Organised by the Miri Youth Association (PBM), the annual festival has grown significantly since its inception in 2013, becoming a key platform for youth engagement in the region.
PBM and MCYF-7 chairman Matassan Rohani said this year's edition carries the theme 'Magnificent of Seven' and will feature various new segments and attractions.
'A total of 36 events will be held concurrently, compared to only 24 events in the previous edition.
'This enhancement is expected to have a significant impact on socio-economic development, sports, youth networking, and entrepreneurship in Miri,' he told the Borneo Post today.
Among the main highlights are the RTG Show, Rich Mind and Good Leadership talk, water sports, beach games, stage performances, and more.
The festival is expected to attract around 3,000 participants and more than 45,000 visitors over the six-day period.
The daily programme will run from 7.30am to 10pm and includes a wide variety of activities suitable for all segments of the community.
Matassan said the festival aims to ignite youth enthusiasm in areas such as sports, entrepreneurship, and social development, while also promoting volunteerism through its diverse line-up.
'From an economic perspective, this edition has the potential to generate sales of up to RM480,000 or more, which will significantly benefit local entrepreneurs,' he added.
Supported by the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) and various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Miri, the event continues to play a vital role in empowering local youth.

Vargas has tiebreaking hit in 8th inning as White Sox rally to beat Blue Jays 4-2
TORONTO — Miguel Vargas hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning and the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 on Sunday. Vargas had two hits and drove in a pair as the White Sox won a series for the first time since taking two of three against Kansas City from June 6-8. Chicago had lost nine of 10 coming into Sunday's game. The White Sox snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 7-1 win Friday. Bo Bichette's RBI single in the seventh gave Toronto a 2-1 lead but the Blue Jays' bullpen couldn't hold it. Left-hander Brendon Little (3-1) took the loss while closer Jeff Hoffman blew his fourth save opportunity in 21 chances. Activated off the paternity list before the game, White Sox right-hander Adrian Houser allowed two runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. Jordan Leasure (2-4) got two outs in the seventh and Brandon Eisert worked the eighth. Rookie Grant Taylor finished for his first career save. With temperatures in Toronto hovering around 90 degrees and high humidity making it feel even warmer, the retractable roof at Rogers Centre was kept closed Sunday.
