Monsoon enters active phase, Konkan gets triple-digit rain
Pune: The monsoon has revived and is likely in its active phase now, IMD said on Saturday, forecasting more rain over the next few days, with chances of light to moderate rainfall in Pune city too till June 17.
Parts of Konkan received triple-digit rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Saturday, prompting authorities to maintain red alert warnings.
Shivajinagar recorded 63.5mm of rainfall during the period, followed by Chinchwad (58mm) and Lavale (51.5mm). Other significant recordings included Magarpatta (43.5mm), Talegaon (42.5mm), Lonavla (39.5mm) and Rajgurunagar (39.5mm). In the Konkan region, Rajapur in Ratnagiri district recorded a 250mm of rainfall, while Kankavli in Sindhudurg district received 100mm.
The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfalls exceeding 200mm at isolated places over south peninsular India and Konkan and Goa till June 16. "The current weather pattern suggests that the monsoon has entered an active phase after a brief lull. We expect more heavy showers across Maharashtra, with intense rain warnings continuing till June 20, though the intensity is likely to reduce after June 16," an IMD official said.

IMD has issued comprehensive advisories for the maritime sector, advising fishermen not to venture along and off Konkan, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala coasts till June 19. The advisory extends to the broader Arabian Sea region, with warnings issued for Lakshadweep, Maldives areas, south east and east-central Arabian Sea till June 19.
The Met department said light to moderate rainfall at most places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40kmph, was likely over Marathawada on Sunday.
Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa during June 18-20, Madhya Maharashtra during June 17-20. The intensity is expected to escalate with very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Konkan and Goa on June 16 and 17, Madhya Maharashtra during June 15-16.
The monsoon has so far covered half of Maharashtra, according to the latest IMD update. Conditions remain favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon over some parts of Gujarat, some more parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha during the next two days, IMD said. The monsoon is also expected to progress over some parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar during the subsequent three days.

New Delhi: The monsoon is likely to reach Delhi within the next two days, with India Meteorological Department forecasting light to moderate rain and improved weather conditions. Indore: A persistent spell of cloudy skies and light rain kept Indore under a cool, damp cover, yet the city's monsoon rainfall remained significantly below expectations. Despite an overcast Sunday and scattered drizzle, Indore recorded only 4 mm of rainfall during the day and 2.8 mm in the last 24 hours. The current weather, however, brought some temporary comfort.
