'People don't train for cancer' - fitness coach raises over £8,000 for hospice
A PERSONAL trainer from Carlisle has completed an 'emotional' seven day challenge and raised £8,600 in memory of his dad.
Barrie Mark Scougal, 49, who owns Barrie Mark Personal Training in Harraby decided to fundraise and honour the team at Eden Valley Hospice who cared for his dad, Tony Scougal, and Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice.
Tony died in June last year after a battle with cancer.
Barrie said: 'It's an emotional day today but it was worth it to have raised so much. It's amazing.
'You see so much about the Eden Valley Hospice on social media, or can drive past it so many times, but until you experience it and meet the staff, you never truly understand.
'You never know when you might need it and to be able to help the hospice keep their doors open is amazing.'
Barrie kick-started his week of fitness challenges with a 10km swim on Monday, May 26 at Bannatyne's gym after coaching from Myles Little.

On Wednesday Mark honoured both his mum and dad by learning their favourite dance, the foxtrot. He took part in around five hours of intensive training and Let's Dance in the city, where his parents used to take their classes.
He then performed in front of a group of 40 people, including his young daughters.
Barrie said: 'I don't dance! This day was probably the worst of all because I wanted to do it justice. I didn't realise that the foxtrot was one of the hardest. I wouldn't have got a ten from Len but it was a laugh.'

To end the week, Barrie took his dad on 'one last run' and completed a half-marathon in his honour – carrying his ashes in his backpack. Tony was a keen runner who took part in 50 half-marathons and 25 full-distance marathons throughout his life.
When he finished the run, Barrie was greeted by over 50 people who were cheering him on.

'I wanted to use my business and my platform to do good and give back to the city.
'My wife thinks I'm mad! My kids have gone to school today telling all their friends about it. To me, it's all about family. They're the most important in my life. If they're proud, I can go to sleep happy.
'Thank you to everyone who has donated, texted, commented and supported me. The response has been phenomenal!'

Woman Says ‘Upset' Partner Wants Her to Cover Up While on Balcony: ‘I Had a Fairly Hippy Upbringing'
A woman shared on the community forum Mumsnet that her partner has asked her to cover up more while on her balcony She said her partner thinks she is "fishing for attention" by wearing things like "a crop top and briefs" on the balcony Now she wonders if her partner is being "a bit controlling"A woman is seeking advice after her partner told her to cover up while she's out on her balcony. She shared her story in a post on the U.K. community forum Mumsnet, explaining that she lives in an apartment with a balcony that is two floors up in a converted Victorian building that overlooks a 'fairly busy street.' On the morning that she posted, she went onto her balcony while wearing "a crop top and briefs" because 'it was hot' and her son's partner had already left for school. 'He said if I'm going on the balcony can I put some shorts on. Weird because I'm essentially more covered up than someone would be in a bikini and it's my balcony,' she wrote. The woman went on to share that her partner also has an issue with her social media posts. 'He has also gotten upset if I've posted any stories on Instagram of me sunbathing with my cat on my balcony, suggesting I'm fishing for attention," she explained. The woman noted that her upbringing has influenced her style and attitude about things. 'I had a fairly hippy upbringing and don't really feel much need to cover up when it's hot because a body is just a body and I'm also very flat-chested with an ironing board body so I don't feel sexy anyway. I've always dressed quite tomboy too. I don't like attention, I just like to be comfortable,' she said. Now, however, the woman is questioning whether her partner is being 'a bit controlling' or if she should 'respect his more conservative boundaries.' In the comments, most readers agreed that the woman should be able to make her own choices about what she wears. 'In my view, nobody has any right to tell you what to do with your own body. And in your own house? Nope, not going to wash," one person wrote, adding, "Perhaps if you're more of a hippy, not too bothered outlook and he's more conservative in thought and deed you might want to think about how happy you would be as a couple going forward." Another commenter wondered how many people were 'craning their head to look up at' the woman from the street and questioned if her partner was controlling in other ways. 'I think you just need to accept you're not compatible. Don't dull your shine for him, don't change your core self (hippy vibes), but also don't expect him to change his core beliefs on respect while in a relationship,' a user wrote, echoing advice given by many others. Woman 'Finally' Built a Fence to Keep Her Neighbors' Kids Out — And Now the Neighbors Are Complaining
A woman's neighbors asked her to change the placement of her new fence because they can no longer fit two cars in their driveway The woman — who says she built the fence because of the neighbors' unruly children — is now wondering if she's being 'unreasonable' if she refuses She shared her story on Mumsnet, where the majority of commenters said her neighbors' parking issues are not her problemA woman is debating whether it would be "unreasonable" for her to ignore her neighbors' request for her to move a new fence in her yard. The woman explained in a post on Mumsnet that she 'finally' installed a fence on her property, after 'months' of her neighbor's children playing on her lawn, 'chucking soccer balls' at her house, 'constantly standing' by her living room window, and 'shouting and waking up' her toddler. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! While the fence immediately solved 'all the issues,' her neighbors are less than thrilled. She said that they told her they are now struggling to fit both their cars in their driveway, as there is now not enough space to open the driver's side door on one of their vehicles. '[The neighbor] has asked if I could move the fence further [in] on my bit, but it will impact my own ability to have two cars on my driveway,' the original poster (OP) said. 'AIBU [am I being unreasonable] to decline this, as it's on my own driveway?' Mumsnet users were quick to tell the OP that she has every right to build a fence on her own property — and that her neighbors' parking issue are not her problem. 'No, YANBU [you are not being unreasonable] — don't move it,' one person said, adding, 'They were using your driveway before for access to their car. [It's] not your problem if they now can't use your driveway.' 'YANBU in the slightest. Say no, unfortunately, you can't. The boundary is the boundary, and moving it would cause potential issues when selling,' someone else said. The same person added, 'I love that he also presumably wants YOU to pay so HE can park his cars. Just nuts …' Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. 'YANBU. If they had bothered to manage their children's behavior, there wouldn't be a fence. So it's a problem of their own making,' another chimed in. Read the original article on People
